JAMMU, Dec 3: Diamond Cricket Club (DCC) Simbal lifted 2nd Christmas Gold Cup title by trouncing Gorkha CC, organised by All J&K Sports and Culture Welfare Association at MA Stadium, here today.
Senior BJP leader and chairman of the Sports and Cultural Welfare Association, Yudhvir Sethi was the chief guest on the occasion.
Diamond CC won the toss and elected to field first. Batting first, Gorkha Cricket Club scored 116 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in stipulated 20 overs, wherein Karam Jamba made highest 34 runs. From the bowling side, Sanyog Singh and Gurudev Singh got 3 wickets each.
In reply, Diamond Cricket Club chased the target by losing 4 wickets in 15.2 overs and registered 6 wicket win over the Gorkha CC. Tanvir Singh scored unbeaten 31 runs, while Rajan Singh also made unbeaten 18 runs and Jahanvir Singh scored 16 runs.
Sanjog Singh was declared as man of the match, while Nikhil of Gorkha Cricket Club bagged man of the series award.
Speaking on the occasion, Yudhvir Sethi said that J&K has started touching new heights in the fields of sports and academics and the names of sportspersons belonging to the J&K UT are surfacing at national and international arenas of sports. He said that the BJP Government has taken so many initiatives in the UT of J&K which other Governments failed to even envisage.
The tournament was organized by Yousuf Don, David Masih and Sabestian and sponsored by Sumeet Sports and ATP Suppliers.
Atul Hans, Director International Daily Rising School, Corporator Anil Masoom, Director Minority Morcha, Asif Gill; Vicky Nikhil joint secretary; Romesh Chand , international footballer, David Masih football coach and Yousaf Don, general secretary were present during the event.
