JAMMU, July 23: To salute and solemnize the undying spirit of Indian Army, year 2018 is being celebrated as ‘Year of Disabled Soldiers’.
As an initial outreach event, Cycling Expedition from Mamun to Yol, consisting of ten Soldiers of Simbal Brigade was flagged off earlier by Lt General YVK Mohan, GOC Rising Star Corps after the curtain raising ceremony at Mamun.
The team under the leadership of Major Ashok Kumar, traversed a distance of 154 Kilometers.
Climbing through the Dhauladhar ranges, the team followed Mamun – Nurpur – Balah – Yol route and had a vivid interaction with 23 disabled soldiers en-route. The members of the Expedition reached out to all these soldiers, right at their doorsteps and interacted with their family members also. Besides sharing their nostalgic heroic moments, this gave a unique platform and opportunity to these brave hearts to discuss nagging issues if any, regarding disability benefits/ pension and seek direct redressal.
It instilled a sense of belief, that they are not in a state of oblivion and nation still recalls their sacrifice for the motherland.
Cycle Expedition team was flagged in by the GOC, Rising Star Corps in a function today, where he interacted and felicitated the team members.
This event marked the beginning of slew of outreach activities planned by the Gurj Division in commemorating the sacrifices of soldiers disabled in the line of duty.
