JAMMU, Apr 12: A cycle rally was organised under the Ace of Spades Division by 25 Artillery Brigade, Field Supply Depot, Rajouri and 51 BSF as a part of the Rajouri Day celebrations. The rally commenced from Jhara Wali Gali, Poonch district.
The rally comprised of enthusiastic officers and other ranks of 25 Div and 51 BSF.
The rally was flagged off this morning which covered challenging mountainous ridges of Jammu region traversing a total distance of 60 kilometers and culminated at ALG Rajouri, thereby marking the beginning of Rajouri Day celebrations.
The cyclists, who as the ‘Messengers of Peace and Harmony’ pedaled to spread the message of promoting friendship, cultural bond and brotherhood amongst the people of Rajouri. The Rajouri Cycling expedition was conceptualized and executed with a view to encourage youngsters in undertaking adventurism, challenges of the unknown, exploring the flora and fauna of the region and above all , proliferating the message of peace and harmony in the region.
While speaking during the flagging-off ceremony, the rally team enlightened the local youth about the importance of Rajouri Day and also commemorated the sacrifices of army personnel in the liberation of Rajouri from the intruders, who with the support of the Pakistan army, had entered the town and resorted to atrocities on innocent people. More than 20,000 men, women, and children were massacred until April 13, 1948, when the Army re-captured Rajouri and the same is being celebrated as Rajouri Day every year.
