COVID-19: Ignored health & safety of players over monetary gains at All England: Saina

New Delhi, Mar 18:

Star shuttler Saina Nehwal today expressed her disappointment with All England Badminton Open tournament taking place ignoring players health and safety over monetary gains despite the spread of COVID-19 pandemic around the globe.
“Only thing I can think of is that rather than the players welfare and feelings, financial reasons were given more importance. Otherwise there was no other reason for the #AllEnglandOpen2020 to go on last week ..” Saina wrote on her twitter handle.
Other sporting events around the world were either cancelled or postponed or witnessed empty stands, however, All England was held under normal circumstances in Birmingham, UK.
Meanwhile, taking stock of the current situation in view of the Coronavirus, the Badminton World Federation suspended the upcoming tournaments.
Saina’s husband Parupalli Kashyap had expressed his concerns regarding Indian players return to the country with new travel restrictions issued by the Indian Government last week.
However, foreign players including Indian had no option, but to take part in All England which came at a crucial time in the Olympic qualification period. (UNI)
