Srinagar, May 20: A local court in Srinagar today directed the J&K Sports Council to form an Adhoc body before the conduct of elections for the office bearers of the J&K Football Association (JKFA) while at the same time rejecting the plea for the grant of extension.
Court of 4th Additional District Judge, Srinagar in an order stated that upon consideration of contention raised and arguments advanced, the application seeking extension of time is allowed by providing four weeks extension to J&K Sports Council for the conduct of elections which would commence from the date of passing of this order.
“It is further provided that in the face of the tenure of present office-bearers having come to an end on 12th of May 2022, therefore Sports Council would take steps, to constitute Adhoc Committee which would provide necessary assistance to J&K Sports Council to facilitate the conduct of elections. The application is accordingly disposed off and consigned to records,” the order stated.
The court said that it has been contended by counsel representing JK Sports Council that elections cannot be conducted on the date fixed i.e 08/05/2022, due to non-furnishing of the details of voter lists at the District level and other documents well in time and some time would be consumed in publicizing the voter list and inviting objections from all concerned, “hence extension in time is being sought, the sports council has further contended that tenure of the present office-bearers has come to an end on 12/05/2022 and they cease to hold any position as office bearers.”
Response, the court said, has been sought from parties. ” Advocate Nahvi has no objection if the time as sought is granted,” it said.
The court stated that however, he has opposed the contentions of Advocates to constitute any Adhoc committee. “In my humble opinion, there is no legal impediment in case Adhoc committee is constituted till the elections are held.”
Meanwhile, the National & International Footballers Forum (NIFF), J&K said that it has been fighting against the irregularities and violations which have been done by the current JKFA regime and that it believes in democracy and advocates fair elections to place a new body of JKFA.
NIFF said that it believes that a genuine Adhoc committee will be formed by the JKSC which will streamline all the constitutional violations done by the JKFA before elections.
