Climber from Kulgam scales Mount Everest

SRINAGAR, June 17: A 28-year-old youth namely Mahfooz Ilahi Hajam of Kulgam brought laurels to Union Territory of J &K by scaling world’s highest peak Mount Everest on June 1.
Mahfooz Ilahi Hajam is working as an instructor at Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports (JIM&WS) in Pahalgam) reached the summit on June 1 at around 6am.
Mahfooz said that he scaled the highest peak of the world with the help of his mentor Colonel I S Thapa who had climbed the Mount Everest twice.
While talking about the expedition, he said that the journey was full of stress due to extreme weather conditions but he succeeded to scale it successfully.
