JAMMU, Mar 22: Arushi Kotwal emerged winner of women’s category in J&K UT level Chess Championship by defeating Meenal Gupta in tie breaker organised at International Delhi Public School Sunjwan, here today.
However, both Arushi Kotwal and Meenal got equal points each (4.5) but the winner was decided through tie breaker rules, while Mansha Mahajan clinched 3rd place and Ojaswani Mengi succeeded to win fourth position. Mansha and Ojaswani also scored equal three points each but 3rd position was also declared on tie break rules.
In the championship seven women players scored three points each.
Alankrita Sharma won the event in under-7, under-9 and under-11 girls events while second position went to Sanvi Mengi, whereas Gaurangi Sharma stood 3rd. Pazhany Kaushal Kohli won first position in under- 9 boys category while Bareeq Ahmad won 2nd position and 3rd position was clinched by Paras Sharma besides in under-7 boys, Paras Sharma remained 1st while Ishaan Chowdhary 2nd and Ishwam Kawatra got 3rd position, whereas in under-11 boys, Lakshya Chowdhary stood 1st , while Deevansh Mahajan and Abhiveer Sharma stood 2nd and 3rd respectively.
In senior open group, Soham Kamotra maintained his lead at 3.5 points while Sumit Grover, Meenal Gupta, Ashutosh Jamwal were following at three points each.
The final rounds of the championship will be played tomorrow at same venue. The championship is being organised by All J&K Chess Association under the aegis of J&K Sports Council as per latest international and AICF rules with Swiss software, whereas matches were conducted by Vivek Bharti under the supervision of Atul Kumar Gupta, president AJKCA and other office bearers of the Association.
