JAMMU, Mar 3: Vivek Chauhan, Principal Oriental Academy Senior Secondary School, Jammu and a veteran member of Tawi Trekkers J&K was nominated as Patron of District Mountaineering Association, Jammu. The honour was conferred on Vivek Chauhan as a mark of gratitude, respect and recognition of his selfless service and the contribution made by him and his prestigious institution for the sustained promotion of adventure activities in Jammu.
Ashwani Sharma, former MLA was the chief guest on this occasion. Prominent among others who garlanded the patron included the Presiding Guest Rahul Sharma, Chairman, Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Jammu and Patron of Tawi Trekkers J&K; Rameshwar Mengi, Chairman, Shiksha Niketan Group of Schools; Sanjeev Gupta, Chairman, The Shri Ram Universal School, Jakh and Patron District Mountaineering Association, Samba; Gaurav Charak, Principal, Humanity Public School, Bari Brahmana; Rasheek Mengi, Director, Pushap Vatika, Kunjwani; Balvinder Singh, Manager, DBN group of Schools and President District Mountaineering Association, Doda besides Ram Khajuria, Sumit Khajuria and Shawetica Khajuria, President, Vice President and General Secretary of Mountaineering Association respectively of J&K.
Rakesh Goswami, President; Sonam Sidharth, General Secretary, Navneet Gupta, Vice President, Shilpa Charak, Joint Secretary and Shashi Kant Sharma, Treasurer of District Mountaineering Association, Jammu and Anu Sharma, an executive member also greeted Vivek Chauhan by presenting him flowers.
While reading the Citation of Vivek Chauhan, Shawetica Khajuria mentioned that Oriental Academy was the first institution which joined Tawi Trekkers J&K 40 years back in 1983 and participated in the first short trek from Mansar to Jammu in 1983. Since then the institution has not looked back and has been regularly contributing towards the progress of the club in one way or the other by participating and patronising innumerable activities of the club.
Vivek Chauhan has personally sponsored many coaching camps for budding as well as senior climbers at Jammu and at Indian Mountaineering Foundation, New Delhi with the sole vision to produce international sport climbers and medallists from Jammu, she added.
