Challenger thrashes Sree Club, to face SCC in finals

AKHNOOR, July 11: Challenger Cricket Club Jammu drubbed Sree Cricket Club by 79 runs in the semifinals today, to face host Singh Cricket Club in the finals here on July 16, 2012.
Batting first, Challenger Club scored a fighting total of 158 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 8 wickets in the process. First class cricketer Ram Dayal played a magnificent innings of 57 runs off just 40 balls with the help of 8 boundaries, while Ashu Kumar contributed 30 runs in 24 balls including 4 fours. Manik Gupta chipped in 10-ball 17 runs. For Sree Club, Amit Sharma and Sandeep Singh bagged 2 wickets each, while Dheeraj and Vikram claimed one wicket each.
Sree Club, in reply collapsed at 79 runs in 14.5 overs to lose the match by 79 runs. Sanju was the top scorer with 24 runs, while Rinku and Faryad contributed 12 and 10 runs to the total respectively. Seam and swing bowler Rakesh Koul was the pick of the bowlers for Challenger Club, who scalped 3 important wickets, while Shiva bagged 2 wickets. Sumit, Ashwani, Manjeet and Manik claimed one wicket apiece. Ram Dayal was adjudged man of the match for his fabulous half-century.
The match was officiated by Sadiq Hussain Malik and Joginder Mangotra as umpires, while Srikant maintained the scorebook. The tournament is being organized by Singh Cricket Club Akhnoor, under the overall supervision of Sham Singh Langeh, organizing secretary.
