UDHAMPUR, Sept 8: Captain Tushar Mahajan Memorial Trust today awarded meritorious students of this district for their exceptional performances in Board and University examinations.
Students who excelled in NEET, NET, IIT and cleared KAS exams were also honored on the occasion.
A function in this regard was organized at Braham Rishi Bawra Shanti Vidya Peeth here where 70 meritorious students were awarded.
Prof Lalit Magotra, President Dogri Sanstha Jammu and Kashmir was the chief guest on the occasion while Chairman Braham Rishi Bawra Higher Secondary School Udhampur Chinmaya Jyoti Didi was guest of pride.
Chairman Captain Tushar Mahajan Memorial Trust Dev Raj Gupta, Asha Gupta mother of martyr Tushar Mahajan, social worker Kalpana Jamwal, President Udhampur Municipal Council Dr Yogeshwar Gupta, Dogri writer Prof Shiv Nirmohi, Prakash Premi and distinguish personalities from different fields were present on the occasion.
Earlier, Shewatketu Singh, Secretary and Joint Secretary Vikas Manhas of the Trust highlighted various activities of Trust like felicitation of martyr’s families, organization of eye camps, honoring of meritorious students and providing uniforms and other stationery articles to poor and needy students. He reiterated the resolve of the Trust to carry on such activities in future too.
The students were presented a mementos.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Lalit Magotra said he was the epitome of a true Indian soldier who does not mind sacrificing his life in the service of the nation. He exhorted the students to work hard in their new fields to brighten their future. He advised the students to be close to their roots and participate in the civil service examinations and opt Dogri as one of the subject in KAS exam to promote Dogri Language to be the part and parcel of their motherland.
He also praised Udhampur youth Sidharth Dubey for choosing Dogri as subject in KAS exam this year and crack the same.
Various other speakers on the occasion demanded renaming of Udhampur Railway Station in the name of Captain Tushar Mahajan and said that it would be a rich tribute to the martyr.
In the end, Dev Raj Gupta, father of martyr Captain Tushar Mahajan and Chairman of the Trust presented the vote of thanks.
