JAMMU, Jan 21: Captain Shivani Sharma of 2 J&K Girls Battalion and Associate NCC Officer Gandhi Nagar College for Women of NCC Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh Directorate, has been awarded with Raksha Mantri Commendation along with a cash award of Rs 20000 by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in presence of DG NCC Lieutenant General Tarun Kumar Aich.
The award was conferred during investiture ceremony, organized at DG NCC Camping Ground New Delhi, today.
The officer was conferred this award for her commitment, dedication and devotion to NCC duties and selfless social service in the adopted village Sehora.
Capt Shivani Sharma has been associated with NCC since 1996 as a cadet. She has been working as an Associate NCC Officer for the last nine years. She along with her cadets worked in the adopted village Sehora for the last three years and coordinated various welfare works in the favour of villagers.
A six month Skill Development Course in Tailoring was also organised by her for the women in the village. During pandemic, she also motivated the women of Self Help Group to make masks for themselves and for sale as well.
In December 2020, three Awareness Drives on Separation of Plastic Wastes were conducted under her guidance and collected plastic waste was deposited to Swachhta Kendra. Being a voracious worker, meticulous planner and a skilled mentor, she has played a pivotal role in mentoring and shaping the career of her cadets.
She was awarded with ADG Medal and Commendation Certificate along with eight cadets of her college for her devotion to duty and her emphatic outlook in reaching out to kith and kin of Kargil Martyrs during Kargil Vijay Diwas in last year.
