ABU DHABI, Nov 24:
Canada defeated Italy by five wickets with four balls to spare in their Group A match in the ICC World 20 Qualifier at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium here today.
It was Canada’s second win from seven matches and were lying sixth with four points in eight-team Group A. Italy were occupying fifth spot with 5 points. They suffered their fourth defeat in seven matches. One of their matches was abandoned due to rain.
Batting first, Italy scored 104 for 6 in allotted 20 overs. Only Damian Crowley ( 61, 5x4s, 1×6) and Alessandro Bonora( 16) could reach the double figure mark. For Canada, Jermey Gordon 3 for 15) was the most successful bowler.
Propped up by fine knocks by Rizwn Cheema (34) and Jimmy Hansra (32), Canada easily achieved their victory target by scoring 105 for 5 in 19.2 overs. Gayashan Muna Singh got 3 for 18 for Italy.
