Bol breaks Dutch 400m hurdles record

THE HAGUE, July 19: European U20 champion Femke Bol stormed to a 53.79-second victory in Arnhem to beat her own 400-meter hurdles Dutch national record.

The 20-year-old had broken the national record two weeks ago with a time of 54.47s set in the rain.

This time, in much better weather conditions, the promising Bol went on to improve the record and took the convincing victory by almost two seconds despite clipping the penultimate hurdle.

Bol previously focused mainly on 400m and only took up the hurdles event last year. She took the 400m hurdles gold at the 2019 European U20 Championships in Boras, Sweden and reached the semifinals at the 2019 World Championships with a national U20 record of 55.32s in Doha, Qatar.  (Xinhua)
