Bilquis nominated technical official of Asian Qualifier for Tokyo Olympics

J&K’s Canoeing queen creates history

JAMMU, Jan 28: Creating history, J&K’s ace canoeing coach Bilquis Mir will be the first women from India in the discipline of Canoeing to be nominated as a technical team member by the Asian Canoeing Confederation Japan for Organising Committee of 18th Asian Canoe Sprint Championships and Asian Qualifier for Tokyo Olympic 2020 to be held at Pattaya in Thailand from March 24 to 30, 2020.
“Bilquis Mir will be the first women in India in Canoeing to be nominated for such prestigious responsibility. She was also a part of technical committee of Asian Games Indonesia. This is a proud moment for India and J&K that she been selected by ACC as a member of technical committee,” reads the letter issued by Prashant Kushwaha, Secretary General, Indian Kayaking and Canoeing Association addressed to the Secretary J&K Sports Council.
It is pertinent is mention here that Bilquis has the distinction of producing International stuff from J&K from last five years.
Ace Canoeist Villayat is also the product of this Canoeing queen Bilquis, who has served India as chief coach in this sporting discipline more than once.
Apart from prestigious State and Sher-e-Kashmir awards, Bilquis is the recipient of Devi Award (Women’s Award for Dynamism and Innovation).
