SRINAGAR, May 19: Bijbehara Sports Club won the Anantnag Premier League (APL) phase -1, by defeating its rival Lions Cricket Club Anantnag in a tough chase today at Anantnag sports stadium
Earlier Lions Cricket Club won the toss and elected to bat first and scored 174 for loss of 4 wickets in 20 overs in which Sarfaraz Ahmed remained top scorer. He scored 58 in 38 balls and Sohail Ahmad scored 49 of 30 balls were as Asgar, Ulfat and Arif took 2, 1 and 1 wickets respectively.
While chasing the target, Bijbehara sports club in the last over of the match scored their final run and won the final of Anantnag Premium League. Asif Rasool remains the highest scorer of the match with 46 of just 24 deliveries and Aqib scored 33 of just 22 balls.
Asif Rasool was declared man of the match as he took a wicket and scored vital match winning 46 runs.
Tournament was organised by sector 1 of Rashtriya rifles in which 31 matches were played in a long one month.
In the presentation ceremony Deputy Commissioner Anantnag Farooq Ahmad Lone and Commander Sector 1 Brig Deepak Benergy facilitated the players and awarded the winning team with a cash prize of Rs 10,000 and runners up team were awarded with a cash prize of Rs 5000.
In the presentation party players were happy with the organizing committee. Meanwhile, deputy commissioner Anantnag Farooq Ahmad Lone promised players that he will provide better and possible facilities in the upcoming tournaments.
Highlighting the importance of sports, the District Development Commissioner said that sports play vital role in shaping the personality of the youth. It inculcates the sense of team spirit and quick decision making power. He said the government has taken various steps to construct and up-grade the existing sports infrastructure in the District.
