JAMMU, Sept 1: Bhalwal zone got better of Jourian zone by 16 runs in the opening match of the District Level Inter-Zonal Under-19 Boys Cricket Tournament, being organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports at Government High School ground Simbal Camp, here.
The Tournament is being organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, under the overall supervision of Sukhdev Raj, District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Jammu.
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, Bhalwal zone scored a fighting total of 113 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the allotted 16 overs. Choutu Keran top scored with 26 runs, while Ajay Choudhary and Rajesh contributed 22 runs each to the total. For Jourian zone, Vishal took 2 wickets, while Pawan claimed one.
In reply, Jourian zone bundled out for 97 runs in 14.4 overs, to lose the match by 16 runs. Mannu top scored with 32 runs, while Shubham contributed 14 runs to the total. Mohd Wasim was the wrecker-in-chief for Bhalwal zone, who scalped 4 important wickets by conceding 15 runs in his 3 overs, while Satbir took 2 wickets.
Earlier, the Tournament was inaugurated by Zonal Physical Education Officer, Bhim Singh and Headmistress Government High School Simbal Camp, Kiran Bala in a well attended function.
The match was officiated by BCCI Level-1 coach Saleem-ur-Rehman and State cricketers Madan Mohan and Satika Sharma, while prominent among other officials present on the occasion were Anju Gupta, selector JKCA, Jagtar Singh former First-Class cricketer, Suresh Singh, BCCI Level-1 coach, Mohd Farooq, National Volleyball player and quality Club cricketer, Pankaj Sasan, senior State cricketer and Mukesh Sharma, former State Under-19 cricketer.
