SRINAGAR, May 19: The State Government is making efforts for strengthening sports infrastructure in the State and various new projects have been taken in hand under the sector.
This was stated by Minister for Housing, Horticulture and Youth Services and Sports (YSS) Raman Bhalla today while addressing a meeting of officers of Department of Youth Services & Sports convened to review the functioning of the department.
The Minister asked the concerned for prioritizing the sports projects and complete them timely so that youth get benefitted. He also asked for distribution of sports kits among the teams for the benefit of enthusiastic youth. He said that some playfields would be specified for organizing mega and minor sports events by the Department of Youth Services & Sports. He assured that all the genuine grievance of the employees relating to recruitment rules, seniority and promotion would be looked into and redressed.
The meeting was informed that 18 playfields in Kashmir province at an estimated cost of Rs. 7.70 crore would be developed by the department. An amount of Rs. 3.10 crore has been spent against the released amount of Rs. 4.78 crore on development of Horse Polo at Drass, development of Ice Hockey Rink and creation of sports infrastructure for winter games at Kargil, the meeting was informed.
The meeting was further informed that one sports complex at block level would be developed under Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyan for the promotion of sports activities in the State.
Discussion on the functioning of Bharat Scouts & Guides was also held in the meeting.
Director General, Youth Services and Sports, Navin Aggarwal; Secretary, Youth Services and Sports, Parvez Malik; Joint Director, Youth Services and Sports Madan Lal; Deputy Directors, Youth Services, Sports, besides District Sports Officers of the State attended the meeting.
