JAMMU, Feb 22: Minister for Housing, Horticulture and Culture Raman Bhalla today inaugurated additional block of Government Middle School at Gorkha Nagar, completed at a cost of Rs. 10 lakh under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) funding.
Chief Education Officer Natha Ram Dingra besides other senior officers of School Education were present on the occasion.
Addressing a large gathering of students, teaching and non-teaching staff members, Mr. Bhalla said Government was making all out efforts to create all infrastructural facilities in the schools to create congenial atmosphere for quality education. He said Government has framed a comprehensive plan for opening of new schools with adequate qualified staff within a distance of one-kilometer in every nook and corner of the State as a step towards universalization of education.
Responding to the demand of locals, Mr. Bhalla asked the School Education Department to prepare estimates under SSA for re-construction of unsafe rooms in the school premises. He said Government was planning to upgrade the School to High School level.
Regarding construction of left out lanes and drains in Gorkha Nagar, the Minister announced Rs. 7 lakh to start the work. He asked the executing agency to complete the project within stipulated time frame by fixing the paver tiles and grating facilities over surface drains.
He also inspected the ongoing construction work of multipurpose community hall in the locality, coming up at a cost of Rs. 30 lakh. He asked the executing agency to complete the work within prescribed time frame so that the locals could use the facilities by arranging social as well as religious functions there on nominal charges.
Earlier, Mr. Bhalla also visited Greater Jammu and kick started upgradation work of lanes, drains and local nallah including crossing culvert in the locality, for which Government has earmarked Rs. 26 lakh.
On the demand of locals, the Minister asked the R&B Department to prepare estimates for construction of deep drain and road widening from Trikuta Nagar Sector-9 to Carmel Convent School in Greater Jammu and submit the same for early start of work.
