Jammu, Apr 4: Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), Rajouri and NIT Kashmir scripted convincing victories over their rivals in the cricket tournament as part of the 1st State Universities Sports Championships, being organized by University of Jammu at Varsity grounds, here.
In the first match played today, BGSBU got better of Islamia University of Science and Technology, Kashmir in an easy contest by 5 wickets.
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, Islamia University scored a modest total of 98 runs in the stipulated 15 overs. Syed Ubair top scored with 27 runs, while Adnan Mushtaq and Umar Wani contributed 17 and 12 runs to the total respectively. For BGSBU, Sarvat scalped 3 wickets, while Rahul Sharma took 2. Suhaib Rafi and Faisal Malik claimed 1 wicket each.
In reply, BGSBU Rajouri chased the target in 13. 4 overs by losing 5 wickets, thus won the match by 5 wickets. Rahul Sharma top scored with 57 runs, while Jibran Nawaz contributed 12 runs to the total. Omar Ashraf took 3 wickets from Islamia University of Science and Tecnology.

In another match played tody, NIT Kashmir defeated SKUAST Jammu by a big margin of 69 runs.
Batting first after winning the toss, NIT Kashmir rode on brilliant knocks of 72 and 62 runs by Amir Bhat and Monis respectively to score a big total of 181 runs in 15 overs, losing 5 wickets in the process. Azhar Rashid also chipped in with 15 runs. Abid was the most successful bowler for SKUAST Jammu, scalping 3 wickets, while Qamar claimed one.
In reply, SKUAST Jammu managed to score 112 runs in the allotted 15 overs, thus lost the match by 69 runs. Sanjay (39), Inzmam-ul-Haq (32) and Manzoor (16) were the main scorers. For NIT Kashmir, Amir Bhat took 2 wickets, while Ubaid claimed one.
