JAMMU, Mar 27: An inter centre Athletics competition of the C-BYTE centers, being run by Jammu District administration for imparting training to border youth for entry into armed forces, was organised today at BSF campus Paloura.
Trainees of six C-BYTE centers of Suchetgarh, Arnia, Jhiri, Mandal, Pargwal and Khour participated in various field and track events including Long jump, 3000 mtr, 1600 mtr, 800 mtr, 400 mtr, 200 mtr, 100 mtrs and relay races.
Advisor to Governor, Parvez Dewan was the chief guest and Rakesh Yadav, an eminent sportsperson and business man from Gurgaon, Haryana, was the guest of honour. DC Jammu, Simrandeep Singh presided over the event as the Chairman, Organizing Committee.
The BSF camp facilitated the district administration in organizing the event which spanned the entire day. Bhanu Singh, a trainee of Jhiri Centre was adjudged the best athlete as he won Gold medals in 1600 mtr, 800 and 400 metres races. The Jhiri centre won the overall championship trophy followed by Suchetgarh and Arnia centres.
On the occasion, the Arnia Centre was also awarded the championship trophy for coming first in the inter-centre Academics competition. The winners were awarded medals, certificates and sports costumes. The Guest of honour, Rakesh Yadav, distributed a total cash award of Rs.55000/- to the medal winners. Speaking on the occassion, Parvez Dewan appreciated the initiative of district administration for starting the centres for border youth training and empowerment as a Skill development scheme under the BADP programme.
He congratulated the medal winners and inspired the trainers to continue their mission with more zeal and dedication.
