ASMITA League commences in Leh

LEH, Mar 24: The ASMITA League 2026 was inaugurated at the NDS Ice Hockey Stadium in Leh, with Moses Kunzang as the chief guest. The league aims to promote women’s participation in winter sports and nurture emerging talent across the region.
The tournament features six teams, including four from Leh district and two from Kargil district. In addition to ice hockey, the league also includes figure skating and speed skating events, adding variety and excitement to the competition.
Among other dignitaries present were Dr Zulfiqar Ali and Tsering Tashi, along with representatives of the Ice Hockey Association of Ladakh. In the matches played today, Kharu Falcons secured a narrow 1–0 win over Sham Eagles, while Lalok defeated SECMOL 6–1. Further matches scheduled include Kharu Falcons vs Lalok and SECMOL vs Shakar Chiktan Queens. The league highlights efforts to strengthen women’s participation in ice-based sports in Ladakh.
