Around 70 sportspersons to represent J&K

JAMMU, Jan 29: After exhibiting their talent in the National Championships, around 70 sportspersons would represent Jammu and Kashmir State in the 35th National Games to be held at Kerala from January 31 to February 14.
Official sources told the Excelsior that around 70 sportspersons would represent the State in 10 games including Wrestling, Gymnastic, Wushu, Athletics, Boxing, Kayaking and Canoeing, Fencing, Shooting, Archery and Rugby. Around 14 officials including 7 coaches would accompany the players of different games, sources added.
“In boxing, four players namely Harpal Singh, Pradeep Sharma, Ashish Jasrotia and  Dheeraj will take part. The team would be accompanied by Coach Anil Wadhera, sources said”,  adding that Harpal Singh won the first ever gold medal for the J&K State in the recently held 1st Elite Men Boxing Championship at Maharashtra and registered berth in the National Games.
Sources said that nine fencers from J&K would display their skills during this National Games. Rashid Ahmed, Ujwal Gupta, Vishal Thapa and Javed Ahmed would represent the State in the men category, whereas Priya Khajuria, Anchal Dogra, Mokshi Sharma, Anchal Gupta and Shriya Chib in women category. The contingent is accompanied by Coach Shotu Lal Sharma and Manager Vijay Sharma.
Five players including a girl would take part in the Wushu competition in national games, sources said, adding that players are Surya Bhanu Partap, Raj Singh Narania, Pardeep, Sandeep Singh and Arshi Jamwal. Kuldeep Handoo would accompany the team as Coach.
“In Athletics event, a total of 10 players including one female namely Jai Kumar, Amrish Sharma, Bal Krishnan, Danish Yousuf, Dileep Sharma, Karnail Singh, Parveen Singh, Zubair Ahmed, Muzaffar Maqbool and Amandeep Kour are taking part. The team would be accompanied by Coach Sheikh Tulal Ahmed and Manager Ajay Sharma.
A total of 6 Gymnasts namely Palak Kour, Mitali, Mridul Gupta, Pawandeep Kour, Mayank Jain and Honey Mehra will exhibit their skills in this National Games. The team will be accompanied by Coach SP Singh and Manager Seema Mehra, sources said, adding that two players are participating in the Archery event namely Ajay Singh and Surinder.
Sources stated that in Shooting event, seven men and three women namely Tarun Dev Singh, Ghir Singh, Vijay Kumar, Surjit Singh, Dig Vijay Singh, Sunmoon Singh, Angad Singh Walia, Anu Sharma, Shreya Saxena and Saniya Saxena would exhibit their talent. The team would be accompanied by Rajesh Virdhy as Coach and Sharad Chander Singh as Manager.
In wrestling, only one player from J&K is taking part under the guidance of Coach Sahil Sharma.
In Kayaking and Canoeing, six players including four girls are taking part under the guidance of Coach Bilquis Mir, sources said, adding that the players include Adil Mohi-ud-Din, Ishfaq, Kusum, Nisha, Tabassum and Asifa.
In Rugby event, 12 players are taking part and the team would be accompanied by Coach Irfan Aziz. The Manager of the team would be Mohammad Iqbal Mehmood, source maintained.
“The Archery event will be held at Cochin from February 1 to 9, Athletics from February 9 to 13 at Pallayam, Boxing from February 6 to 13 at Trissur, Kayaking and Canoeing from February 9 to 13 at Alabbuzha Lake, Rugby from February 11 to 13 at Kollam, Shooting from February 1 to 7 at Thiruvananthapuram, Fencing from February 9 to 13 at Cochin, Gymnastic from February 1 to 6 at Thiruvananthapuram, Wrestling from February 1 to 14 at Kanoor and Wushu from February 7 to 13 at Thiruvananthapuram”, sources said.
“The J&K Olympic Association has appointed Harjit Singh Gill as Chef-de-Mission of the National Games from J&K, whereas SS Gill and Abdul Qayoom, Chief Sports Officers, J&K State Sports Council have been appointed as Deputy Chef-de-Missions. Prof BA Shah and Ranjit Kalra, members, J&K State Sports Council would be the Observers to witness the games and performance of the J&K teams”, sources added.
