SRINAGAR, Sept 19: “Sports can unite people, create hope for a better tomorrow and a brighter future. The youth who are participating today are epitome of the power of that change and with the efforts of Jammu Kashmir Police, they are becoming champions not only in sports but in their life too”, remarked Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha during the “Pedal for Peace” award ceremony at the Police Golf Course, today.
Around 1000 cyclists, including professionals, participated in the seven different categories of the “Pedal for Peace” event, organized by the Jammu Kashmir Police. The participants cycled with great enthusiasm, passing through various picturesque locations of the Srinagar city.
“The UT administration is providing our youth countless opportunities to engage in creative & constructive activities, to channelize their energies and to promote team spirit and character building through the programs of Sports Council, Mission Youth & Jammu Kashmir Police”, he noted.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Junaid Azim Mattu Mayor SMC; Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar and Baseer Khan, Advisors to the Lt Governor; Dr Arun Kumar Mehta, Chief Secretary; Dilbag Singh, DGP; RR Swain, Special DG; SJ M Gillani, ADGP Armed; Pandurang K Pole, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir; Vijay Kumar, IGP Kashmir, besides senior officers of Civil and Police were also present. Dr Darakhshan Andrabi, Member, Central Waqf Council, and Chairperson, Waqf Development Committee, Ministry of Minority Affairs, GoI also graced the occasion.
Earlier, Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh flagged off the race in presence of ADGP Armed J&K SJM Gillani and other senior officers of J&K Police near Environment Park. The race culminated at 0900 hours after which an impressive award ceremony was held at Police Golf course.
On the sidelines of the flag off ceremony, the DGP while speaking to the media said that such events are not only important for our health but also contribute in strengthening mutual bonds and competitiveness. He informed that J&K Police has more such events lined up which would be organized in near future.
He said that Cycle Race (Pedal for Peace) event was open for all and was organized in seven different categories viz Senior (Men) above 17 years (ATB) Professional Cyclists, Senior (Men) above 17 years (MTB) Cyclists, Girls above 14 years (MTB) Cyclists, Jr. Boys under 17 years (MTB) Cyclists, Sub-Junior (Boys) under 14 years (MTB) Cyclists, Sub-Junior (Girls) under 14 years (MTB) Cyclists and veterans took part in the event. The DGP said that the prize money was given to first three winners in all seven categories besides consolation prizes to the junior kids for their participation.
The first three winners amongst ATB professional Cyclists (senior Men above 17 years) who were presented cash prize of Rs 50,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 are Waheed Ahmad, Mohammad Adil Taili and Adil Teli respectively.
The first five winners amongst senior men above 17 years MTB Cyclists who were presented cash prize of Rs 20,000, Rs 15,000, Rs 10,000, Rs 5000 and Rs 3000 are Parwez, Mashooq Maqbool, Anish Dubey, Akash Bhat and Manav Radha respectively.
The first five winners amongst girls above 14 years MTB Cyclists who were presented cash prize of Rs 25,000, Rs 20,000, Rs 15,000, Rs 10,000 and Rs 5000 are Leakzes Angno, Hurmah Shah, Sara Naqash, Rubab Ali Punjabi and Zobiya Tariq respectively.
The first five winners amongst Junior Boys under 17 years MTB Cyclists who were presented cash prize of Rs 20,000, Rs 15,000, Rs 10,000, Rs 5000 and Rs 3000 are Suhaib-ul-Mehraj, Moin Nabi, Shabir Ahmed, Adnan Bashir and Mir Bahzat Nawaz respectively.
The first five winners amongst Sub-Junior Boys under 14 years MTB Cyclists who were presented cash prize of Rs 15,000, Rs 10,000, Rs 5,000, Rs 3000 and Rs 2000 are Hashim-ul-Nabi, Jehangir Ahmed, Yasir Furkan, Tajamul Rasid and Kamran Majeed respectively and the five winners who secured sixth to tenth position in the said category and were presented cash prize of Rs 1000 each are Wasif Sadiq, Maroof Shafi, Saif Mohd, Basit Abas and Raheem Ashraf.
The first five winners amongst Sub-Junior Girls under 14 years MTB Cyclists who were presented cash prize of Rs 15,000, Rs 10,000, Rs 5,000, Rs 3000 and Rs 2000 are Nibila Khan, Yumnna Parviz, Farhan Ahad, Adiba Jaan and Mehak Ashraf respectively and the five winners who secured sixth to tenth position in the said category and were presented cash prize of Rs 1000 each are Syed Hania Kashani, Zarmeen Khan, Muntaha Javaid, Anush Khursheed and Heeba.
The first three winners amongst Men above 45 Years MTB Cyclists who were presented cash prize of Rs 30,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 are Faheem Ali Punjabi, Dr. Sheikh Tariq and Mir Rasheeq respectively.
