Srinagar, November 23: Army today said it organized multiple events in Awantipora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district including T-20 tournament.A defence spokesman said under the aegis of Chinar Corps, an Inter Village T-20 Cricket Championship at Shar-e-Shali and Fashion Designing-cum-Food Beverage Course at Tral in the district.” Inter village T-20 Cricket Championship was organised from October 11 to November 23. The zeal and enthusiasm of the youth was overwhelming and the same was visible with the number of participating teams. Enthusiastic youth, divided in 16 teams of local villages participated in the T-20 tournament. The 16 participating teams are Royal Fifty, Police Eleven, Dus, Nagbal, Chandhara-I, Chandhara-II, Satha Pokhirin, Barus, Kranchu, Wuyan-II, Shar-II, Wahab Karan, Mandikpal, Khreuh, Wuyan-I, and Gundbal,” the spokesman said.
He said the final match was played between teams Royal Fifty of Khrew Village and Police Eleven. “It was well contested finals in which the team Police Eleven emerged as the Champions,” he said.
The defence spokesman said as part of youth empowerment programme, the army organised food beverage, steward and fashion designing course for unemployed youths of Tral under Operation Sadhbhavana.
“A total of 93 local unemployed youth’s including ladies were benefitted from these courses. The initiatives taken by the Army for establishing the Community Development and Coaching Centre for the Youths and School Children of Tral was well appreciated by one and all present during the ceremony. The local populace lauded the Army for its endeavour towards increasing the employment opportunities for the unemployed youths of Tral,” he said.
Commander, Victor Force , Major General Arvind Dutta in the presence of other Army and civil dignitaries from Tral and Pulwama felicitated the prize winners of Inter Village T-20 Cricket Championship and also distributed certificates to the students of Food Beverage, Steward Course and Fashion Designing Course, the spokesman said.
“Besides this, Major General Arvind Dutta also distributed carpentry tools, sewing machines, solar lantern, cricket kits, badminton sets, volleyball sets, hearing aids and crutches to needy villagers, school children and primary health centers in Pampore area of the district,” he added.
