JAMMU, Oct 7: Second edition of ‘Rajouri Marathon 2019’ was organized by Indian Army’s ‘Ace of Spades Division’ for all desirous Civil & Defence runners of Rajouri, Poonch, Mendhar and Naushera districts to promote health awareness and a motto of ‘Swachh Rajouri Green Rajouri’ amongst local populace.
Around 2000 Civilians & defence runners actively participated in various categories as per their age groups. The event was graced by various defence and civilian dignitaries which included General Officer Commanding, 25 Infantry Division, Army Officials, Mohammad Aijaz, DC, Rajouri, Vivek Gupta, Deputy Inspector General, Police, Indradeo Singh, Deputy Inspector General, Border Security Force, Mr Liaqat Ali, Additional Superintendent of Police, Rajouri and various other civil dignitaries.
The event started with warming up Zumba Dance by Master Rahul followed by flag off of 21 km, 10 km, 5 km and 3 km run as per respective age groups.
There were separate prizes for each 21 km, 10 km, 5 km and 3 km categories.
The first prize in 21 km category in 15-30 years age group was won by Master Dalvir Singh, prize in 30-45 years age group was won by Zameel Khan and in 45-60 years age group was won by Nazir.
The first prize in 10 km category in 15-30 years age group was won by Master Paramvir Singh, prize in 30-45 years age group was bagged by Zameel Ahmed and in 45-60 years age group was claimed by Shakoor.
Similarly, first prize in 5 km category in 15-30 years age group was won by Master Jeet Raj, prize in 30-45 years age group was claimed by Yusuf and in above 60 years age group was bagged by Kamal Zamani.
Similarly, in 3 km category in 11-45 years age group, prize was won by Master Ashfaq, in 45-60 years category was won by Anil Bakshi.
All participants were given participation medals and T-Shirts to encourage them. 203 girls and women runners also participated.
Gurnam Kaur won 21 km competition, Arban Naz won 10 km competition, Shamshad won 5 km competition, and Sonia Tabassum won 3 km competition.
The ‘Marathon Run’ was a live example of Unity in Diversity and Indian Army did a commendable job to spark feeling of fitness and health consciousness and spread awareness regarding ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ in all residents especially youth of Rajouri and Poonch.
