GANDERBAL, Feb 19: The Chinar T-20 Cricket Tournament which is being conducted at Govt College of Physical Education, Gadura was inaugurated today by Maj General A Sengupta, YSM GOC CIF (V) in a grand ceremony in the presence of Brig Syed Ali Usman, SC, Cdr 3 Sect RR, Shafaqat Iqbal DC, Ganderbal, Khalil Poswal, SSP, Ganderbal and various prominent persons of govt and civil institutions.
In continuation of Indian Army’s efforts to encourage sports in Kashmir Valley, Ganderbal based 5 Rashtriya Rifles Battalion (JAT) launched the much awaited championship showcasing their talent and commitment of Kashmiri youth in sports.
A total of ten teams from all parts of Kashmir Valley are participating in the tournament which is being played on a knockout basis.
The chief guest, in his address to the teams, encouraged the young players to utilize this golden opportunity not only to showcase their talents but also to imbibe some of the most important life lessons through the medium of sports.
He appreciated the efforts of organising committee for conducting the event and was pleased to see the large numbers of enthusiastic audience that had come to see the match.
He declared the tournament open amidst fanfare and excitement.
An inaugural match was played between Baramula Blasters (19 Inf Div) and Green X (Victor Force) to mark the beginning of the tournament.
