Army conducts Body Building Competition in Baramulla

Baramulla, Oct 8: As part of its initiatives towards encouragement of youth and development of sporting culture, the annual body building competition “Mr Baramulla 2015” was conducted at Sherwani hall by RR Bn at Baramulla under the aegis of Chinar corps. The event was conducted in joint collaboration with J & K body builders association.
The event witnessed participation of youth from various places like Uri, Pattan, Rafiabad, Sopore, Boniyar and Baramulla. The competition which was divided into nine different weight categories saw the youth fight for the coveted title of “Mr Baramulla”. After tough four rounds, Shamim Ahmed a resident of Sopore stood as the winner and Mohsin Ahmed of Kreeri stood as the runners up. The participants got an overwhelming response from the audience of around 350 youth which included various dignitaries from both civil and army. Speaking on the occasion, Maj Gen Raj Shukla, GOC Dagger Division expressed the importance of physical fitness in today’s world and reiterated Army’s commitment to developing a robust sporting culture in Kashmir valley.
Mr Shamim Ahmed thanked the organizing body and his support staff and expressed his gratitude to the Army for organizing such an event and providing a suitable platform for the youth of valley to showcase their talents. The event was also a precursor to “Mr J&K” competition being held at Srinagar on October 10, 2015.
