Annual NSS Camp concludes

JAMMU, Feb 24: The week-long Camp at Village Chak Jaralan, Bishnah in Samba, which had begun on February 11, 2014, concluded today.
The Camp was organized by the NSS Unit of Dogra College of Education, Bassi Kalan, Bari Brahmana, Samba.
Various activities were held during the Camp, organized in collaboration with Indira Gandhi Govt Dental College, Jammu and Department of Preventive and Community Dentistry.
The activities included Socio-economic Surveys, Cleanliness Drive, Awareness Rally, Yoga Exercises, Literacy Drive, Plantation Drive and Free Medical Dental Camp.
A lecture was given on the occasion by Dr Paramjeet, Registrar, Govt Dental College, Jammu.
During the valedictory function, Shefali Sharma, Vice Principal Dogra College of Education highlighted the role of NSS in developing student’s personality through community service.
Camp Report was presented by Rajni Manhas, Programme Officer, NSS Unit of Dogra College of Education.
Kr Ghambir Dev Singh Charak, Member Trustee Dogra Educational Trust, Member Zonal Railway Users Consultative Committee and president Youth, Dogra Sadar Sabha was the chief guest on the occasion.
In his address he stressed that the Motto of the National Service Scheme is “Not me but you” which expresses the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for selfless service and appreciation of the other’s point of view.
He further stressed that it should be the main objective of the NSS volunteers to demonstrate this motto in their day to day activities of the camp.
Earlier, welcome address was presented by Ms Poonam Gupta, Senior Lecturer of the College.
In her address she stressed upon the role of NSS in improving Literacy, Health and Hygiene, Social Awareness among the people of remote areas of the region.
Prominent among those who were present on the occasion were Prof B D Damral, Director cum Principal Dogra College of Education, Jatinder Singh Jaral, Sarpanch and Rattan Lal Sharma, Lambardar of the village, besides Principal, Staff members and students of Govt High School and Villagers of Chak Jaralan.
Prizes were distributed among the students of Govt High School Chak Jaralan and also among the volunteers of the College.
The award for the best services during the camp was bagged by Roshi Dabgotra.
