Angels, Queens vie for top honours as T20 Cricket C’ship gets underway

JAMMU, Feb 4: Budding female cricketers of Jammu divided in two teams of Jammu Angels and Jammu Queens while vying for the top honours took on each other in the inaugural tie of the T20 Cricket Championship, which got underway in an impressive, colourful and well attended function at KC Sports Club ground, here today.
Transport Commissioner J&K was the chief guest on the occasion, while Dr Saleem-ur-Rehman, Director General Youth Services and Sports was the guest of honour.
The other dignitaries present on the occasion were Ajaz Abdullah, Additional Transport Commissioner; Vikas Sharma, Joint Transport Commissioner; Mushtaq Ahmad Mir, Additional Secretary; Mohd Amin, Under Secretary, SRSC; Esha Chib, Assistant Transport Commissioner; besides Organizing Secretary SSP RK Bhat, MD KC Sports Club Arjun Choudhary and Coordinator of the event, Chief Prosecuting Officer and former Ranji Trophy Player, Rajesh Gill.
The tournament in which 10 teams of senior cricketers, two teams of girls and two teams of under-12 boys are participating is being organized by the Transport Department in collaboration with KC Sports Club, Jammu.
While speaking on the occasion, the chief guest lauded the efforts of the organizers in conducting this mega cricketing event.
He said the sportspersons are the real messengers of peace, prosperity and security as well.
The guest of honour, Saleem-ur-Rehman, DG Sports while speaking on the occasion said that the budding sportspersons are the best medium to promote any kind of activity.
The proceedings of the inaugural function were conducted by Commentator Rajesh Dhar.
In the first match of girls, Jammu Angels defeated Jammu Queens by 8 wickets.
Batting first, Jammu Queens scored 87 runs in the stipulated 12 overs, losing 3 wickets in the process. Nadia Chowdhary top scored with 25 runs, while Sarla and Rudrakshi contributed 23 and 21 runs to the total respectively. For Jammu Angels, Sanjana, Ananya and Tanisha shared one wicket each.
Jammu Angels, in reply, achieved the target in the last over by losing 2 wickets and won the match by 8 wickets. Sonika was the top scorer with 38 runs, while Tanisha and Sanjana contributed 16 and 15 runs to the total respectively. Pushpa and Rudrakhi claimed 1 wicket each.
In another match of senior boys, KC Sports Club trounced Media Cricket Club in an easy contest.
Batting first, Media Cricket Club bundled out on paltry 68 runs in 19 overs. Ashu and Sahil scored 15 runs each, while Arif contributed 12 runs. From KC Sports Club, Vivek took 4 important wickets, while Basit bagged 3 wickets. Anchal also picked 2 wickets and Abhinav claimed one.
In reply, KC Sports Club chased the target in just 6 overs without losing any wicket. Vicky (29) and Abhinav (23) were the main scorers. KC Sports Club won the match by 10 wickets.
