Akhtar distributes prizes among winners

SRINAGAR, June 4: Minister for Education, Naeem Akhtar said the young generation of Kashmir have stood the test of time against all odds, and have still managed to excel and standout in academics, sports cultural and co-curricular activities, adding that this needs to be taken forward to higher levels.
Minister said this while speaking as chief guest, at the award ceremony of 6th Sub-Junior National Tong IL Moo Do Championship, organized by J&K Tong IL Moo Do Association at Indoor Stadium here today.
Minister said there is still a deficit in the facilities being provided for such sporting events, adding that the Government is giving focused attention for the promotion of sports in the State. He said the Government is providing sporting equipment in schools to encourage sports activities as a part of their education.
Akhtar said in Education Department cultural, co-curricular activities and sports are being given equal importance as academics. He said the Education and Youth Services and Sports Departments need to work together for overall personality development of the students.
Later, the Minister gave away prizes among the winners and congratulated the participants from across the country.
It was for the first time that such a national level event was held in the Valley, which included participants from 16 States of the Country.
Director General Youth Service and Sports, Jahangir Mir, PDP Youth wing president, Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra and others were also present on the occasion.
