Akhil Kapahi is new Yoga president

JAMMU, Apr 27: Young entrepreneur and familiar with the tradition of Yoga, Akhil Kapahi has been made president of the J&K Yoga Association (JKYA) in the general body meeting of the sports society held here today.
Earlier, on the outset of the meeting, JKYA president and educationist, Deepak Handa tendered his resignation owing to some personal reasons. Soon, finding the top post vacant, general secretary of J&K Archery Association, Sunil Sharma proposed the name of Akhil which was seconded by general secretary of J&K Olympic Association (JKOA), Dr Ashutosh Sharma.
Then it was the formality for the house to unanimously elect Akhil Kapahi as new president of the State Yoga Association in place of Deepak Handa. The executive body also named Vinod Bhatia as general secretary replacing Surender Pathak from the post. However, Sarabjeet Singh has retained the post of treasurer of the Association.
Former Secretary, J&K State Sports Council (JKSSC), former Municipal Commissioner and President Jammu and Kashmir Gymnastics Association, Kiran Wattal, who acted as observer from JKOA, raised curtain points with regard to conduct of the elections.
The meeting was attended besides others by president of JKOA, Dushyant Sharma, senior members of JKOA, HS Chib, SS Gill, Rajan Sharma and Vikas Gupta.
Meanwhile, talking to reporters newly elected president, Akhil Kapahi expressed his thanks to the J&K Yoga Association and the JKOA for reposing faith in him.
He promised to take the game of yoga to a new height in J&K by involving young students at school level and those young trainees across different sports disciplines to learn the basics of Yoga for fitness and for excelling as a game.
