JAMMU, May 3: Two time Jammu and Kashmir Chess Champion, Akashdeep Singh won the Under-19 boys chess title in the ongoing selection events of Jammu division at Ace Chess Academy, Trikuta Nagar, here.
Akashdeep has the distinction of being awarded as the fastest grooming amateur tide rated chess player in Asia by the Asian Chess Federation.
Meanwhile, Soham Kamotra won U-15 boys event while second position went to Jaiveer Singh Gujral and third position was bagged by Akashdeep.
In girls section, Meenal Gupta won the U-15 event while second position went to Arushi Kotwal and third position was claimed by Avni Gupta. Meenal Gupta had won U-19 category girls also yesterday.
The matches were officiated by Sumit Grover.
All the matches were played under the supervision of Atul Kumar Gupta, president, All J&K Chess Association and Joint Secretary, All India Chess Federation. The matches are being played as per International rules under Fide laws of chess.
Selected players from these events alongwith selected players from Kashmir division will represent J&K in the forthcoming Nationals.
Women events and U-11 age category events will be played tomorrow at the same venue.
