JAMMU, Feb 12: The opening day of the 27th Annual Football Championship, organised by J&K Football Association (JKFA), witnessed a record number of 10 knock-out matches of the first round played at twin venues of Mini Stadium, Parade and GGM Science College ground, here today.
The event was declared open by Financial Commissioner (Finance), Dr A K Mehta amidst interaction with the participating teams at Mini Stadium, Parade, here.
The participants included two prominent Indian League Clubs of Kashmir Football FC and Lone Star Kashmir FC. While Jammu 16 other teams are from Jammu Province and 10 from Kashmir Province.
Dr Mehta was accompanied by guest of honour, Commissioner Secretary, Youth Services and Sports, Sarmad Hafeez.
Both the special guests were taken to the ground to introduce with the participants by JKFA president, Zamir A Thakur, other office bearers and members of the organising committee.
While interacting with the players, the chief guest assured them of full support from the Govt for upliftment of the game.
The guest of honour also stressed on grass-root development of the game.
The Results: DFA Budgam drubbed DFA Ramban 7-0; Zone Handwara trounced DFA Doda 6-0; DFA Kathua beat DFA Bandipora 1-0; DFA Poonch outplayed DFA Ganderbal 3-2 via tie-breaker; Zone Rafiabad bt DFA Rajouri 4-0; Anantnag blanked DFA Kupwara 6-0; Samba prevailed over Kulgam 1-0; Pattan scripts a solitary goal win against Reasi (1-0) ; Sopore defeated Udhampur 1-0; Zone Hajin beat Kishtwar 4-0.
In tomorrow’s fixture at GGM Science College: DFA Pulwama will take on DFA Baramulla; Param Sports will meet Zone Pampore; Young Star will face Clymount XI; DFA Kathua will lock horns with DFA Ramban; J&K Bank Academy Jammu will face DFA Handwara.
At Mini Stadium Parade, Zone Hajin will take on SFA; DFA Shopian will meet Jammu United FC; Zone Pattan will lock horns with DFA Sopore; DFA Samba will face NGR FC; Hyderia Sports will meet Young Hero FC.
