*Lotra’s fifty, Vishal’s 5-for go in vain

JAMMU, Apr 2: Sahil Lotra’s brilliant fifty and Vishal Rana’s 5-wicket haul went in vain as superb bowling show by the duo of speedsters Mehjoor Ali Sofi and Rahil Singh and splendid batting display by Waseem Raza, Ramdayal and Omar Alam guided AG’s J&K to a 10-run win over Mayank Goswami Cricket Academy (MGCA) to seal berth in the finals of the ongoing Rigour Cup 50-Over Cricket Tournament, being organized by Country Cricket Academy at its Stadium in Gharota, near here.
Earlier, batting first AG’s J&K had a disastrous start and lost first 6 wickets in quick succession. However, ace all-rounders Ramdayal and Omar Alam came to the rescue of the team by scoring 37 runs each off 55 and 97 deliveries respectively. Another all-rounder, Waseem Raza was the top scorer with 44 runs and helped his team to reach a respectable total of 197 runs in the stipulated 50 overs. Bandeep Singh and Sahil Bhalwal chipped in with 18 and 14 runs respectively, while Paras Sharma, Vimarsh Kaw and Aditya Pratap Singh went without scoring.
Left-arm medium pacer, Vishal Rana was the wrecker-in-chief, who took 5 important wickets by conceding 24 runs in his 10 overs, while Nityam Abrol took 2 wickets for MGCA by conceding 29 runs in his 10 overs. Kunal Chib and Sahil Mahotra claimed one wicket each.
In reply, MGCA managed to score 187 runs in 49 overs to lose the match by a narrow margin of 10 runs. Promising young batsman Sahil Lotra top scored with 51 runs, while Sahil Mahotra (19), Suryansh Raina (19) and Robin Singh (18) were the other contributors.
Fast bowler Mehjoor Ali Sofi was the pick of the bowlers for AG’s J&K, who claimed 4 important wickets by giving away 42 runs in his 10 overs, while Rahil Singh also took 3 important wickets.
Coaches and mentors of AG’s J&K namely Ashwani Gupta, Former First Class Cricketer and Rajan Singh accompanied the team, while Sandeep Singh Sunny, Former Ranji Trophy Player was a special guest.
The tournament is being held under the supervision of Vikrant Sharma, Director Country Cricket Academy and Vivek Sharma, Former Ranji Trophy Player.
In another semifinal, ACC Udhampur will take on UCC Udhampur tomorrow.
