JAMMU, Dec 25: A friendly T-20 cricket match, organized by J&K Sports Council to celebrate Christmas Day was played between teams of Secretary-XI and Administration XI, wherein the latter emerged winners by 5 wickets at MA Stadium, here today.
Administration team was led by Mukesh Singh ADGP Jammu, it comprised many prominent faces including Raghav Langer Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Avny Lavasa, Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation, Hasseb-U-Rehman Senior Superintendent of Police SDRF, Chandan Kohli Senior Superintendent of Police Jammu besides other officers and officials while Secretary XI was led by Mohamad Yaqoob Itoo, Director General Budget along with prominent personalities including Nazim Zai Khan, Secretary to Government, Disaster Management Relief & Rehabilitation, Shafat Yahya Joint Director Budget, Dr Zaffar Ahmad and Naseer Ahmad, Chief Accounts Officers J&K Sports Council and Power Corporation respectively and other officials from varied departments including Sports Council.
The venue was abuzz with the activities as many kids along with coaches from many sports disciplines thronged the Stadium to support both the teams. Many medallists who had recently returned after competing in various national tournaments and bringing laurels to the J&K were present during the event. A cake was also cut to mark the celebration of medallists and to commemorate Christmas.
Secretary Sports Council who supervised the arrangement from word go was present in the ground all through the match along with Divisional Sports Officer Ashok Singh and other officials of J&K Sports Council to keep the venue ready for the occasion besides putting other necessary arrangements in place.
While congratulating both the teams for putting up an excellent match, the Secretary Sports Council said that such events are an ideal way of building team spirit and camaraderie amongst the officers and officials from varied Government departments and also provides a healthy ecosystem for sports culture to flourish.
Winning the toss, Secretary XI scored 120 runs in the stipulated 20 overs by losing all the wickets. Naseer, Zaffar and Anil scored 20 runs each, while Shafat made 14 runs. From the bowling side, Rajesh Gill, former Ranji player clinched 3 wickets, while Mukesh Singh, Hasseb-U-Rehman and Chandan Kohli secured 2 wickets each.
In reply, the Administration XI team won the match by 5 wickets in 19th over losing just five wickets. Southpaw Mudassir remained not out at 55 runs while Rajesh Gill scored 42 runs and Raghav Langer and Mukesh Singh contributed 14 and 10 runs to total respectively, besides the winning run was hit by SSP Chandan Kohli. From the bowling side, Nazim Zai Khan and Anil bagged 2 wickets each, whereas skipper Mohamad Yaqoob Itoo bagged one wicket. Rajesh Gill was announced as man of the match for his all-round performance.
