JAMMU, June 2: Shivani Charak, an ace sport climber of Jammu and Kashmir, who has been selected in the Indian team for the forthcoming Bouldering World Cup -2017, left today for Delhi for coaching cum practice at the international standard Bouldering Gym at Indian Mountaineering Foundation prior to her participation in the Bouldering World Cup scheduled to be held at Navi Mumbai in India on June 23 and 24, 2017.
16-year old Shivani, the youngest sport climber among 8-member Indian team for the Bouldering World Cup, had returned from Switzerland to Jammu on May22, 2017 after a 4 weeks specialized training on world class climbing walls in European countries Switzerland, Slovenia and Italy.
Since her return from Switzerland Shivani had been practicing along with national medalists Arun Deep Singh and Mrityunjay Sharma at Tenzing Norgay Sport Climbing Wall in Sprawling Buds School, Bantalab, Jammu as there is absolutely no Government sport climbing infrastructure of even national standard available in J&K. However, the training here was, obviously, not quite beneficial.
As such Mountaineering Association of J&K deputed Shivani along with Arun Deep Singh and Mrityunjay Sharma to Indian Mountaineering Foundation, New Delhi for proper training on international standard walls and a standard gym.
It may also be mentioned here that Arun Deep and Mrityunjay also needed training on international standard climbing walls as both, being national medalists, are also going to be invited by Indian Mountaineering Foundation, New Delhi for the trials for the forthcoming Asian Youth Championship at Singapore.
It is also pertinent to mentioned here that Arun Deep Singh is the reigning current National Speed Climbing Champion and has also won silver and a bronze medal in Lead and Bouldering competitions and Mrityunjay had won a bronze medal in the Speed Competition in the last national Championship at Bangalore.
Both are in good form and are likely to be selected in the Indian team for the Asian Youth Championship.
