LEH, May 23: Tip Top Yellow smashed United Ldumra and clinched the title of the month long 19th NDS Memorial T20 Cricket Tournament Cup, which was organized in the memory of three heroes of Ladakh– Nawang, Dorjay and Stobdan (NDS), who laid down their life during an agitation in 1989.
The famous annual tournament organized by Tip Top Sports and Culture Welfare Society (TTSCWS) witnessed 24 different club participations.
LAHDC CEC Dr Sonam Dawa Lonpo was the chief guest on the occasion while Tsewang Thinles from Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA) was guest of honour.
The final match was played between United Ldumra and Tip Top Yellow. Tip Top Yellow won the toss and opted to field. United Ldumra managed to score 122 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. Tip Top chased the target easily with good partnership between Kaliyan and Tundup. Tundup of Tip Top was declared Man of the Match. Rinchen of Chouchot Sporting Club won the Purple Cap for highest wicket taker and Azis declared as Highest Scorer. The winner team was awarded a cash prize of Rs 35,000 while the runner up team was awarded a cash prize of Rs 25,000.
While speaking, Dr Sonam Dawa Lonpo said that such tournament engages the youth towards positive activities. He also highlighted the contribution of Nawang, Dorjey and Stobdan for Ladakhi, who laid down their lives during agitation fighting for UT in 1989. He also read out the memorandum given by TTSCWS and assured to solve the problems as soon as possible.
During the event cultural performance by Ladakh Students ECO Culture Saver added more spark to the day.
Later, chief guest distributed prize to the winner and participating team.
