JAMMU, Feb 26: 18th J&K State Judo Championship was inaugurated by Thakur Rachpal Singh, president J&K Judo Association and Ex-MLA in a colourful, well attended and impressive function at Multi Purpose Hall, MA Stadium, here today.
Dr Ashutosh Sharma, Chairman Affiliation Committee of IOA presided over the function.
Speaking on the occasion, Thakur Rachpal Singh said that the Asociation will soon organize a National Level Judo Championship in J&K as the State Judokas are performing well at the higher levels.
The Championship is being organized by J&K Judo Association, under the aegis of J&K State Sports Council and J&K Olympic Association.
Prominent among those who are present on the occasion were Kuldeep Singh Jamwal, sr vice president ; RC Thakur, vice president; Varinder Dogra, Tteasurer; Rajan Sharma, Sports Officer; Satish Gupta, Manager; Abdul Hamid Khan, Shiv Kumar, Dev Raj, Suraj Sharma, Manish Chatwal. About 300 Judokas from different Schools from Katha, Jammu and Srinagar districts participated in the Championship.
The bouts awere officiated by Suraj Bhan Singh, Arshi Nath, Vikas Dogra, Ritika Slathia, Shakti Gupta, Jugal Kishore, Rameshwar Singh, Rajesh and Vishal
In Girls section 18 Kg , Lavanya bagged gold, Ishika claimed silver, while Parkesha and Dhanista shared bronze, while the gold medals in various weight categories in girls section were bagged by Ikshita, Sadiq Ajaz, Shreya Kotwal, Jiya Bhat, Chhavi Koul, Anisha Spolia and Vanshika Manhas.
In boys section the gold medals in various weight categories went to Aman Kanotra, Ridham, Mohd Sadiq, Hitesh Chibber, Aditya Singh, Om Baloria and Shivam Baloria.
