JAMMU, May 2: Sprawling Buds School, Chinore, Jammu dominated the 15th Jammu District Sport Climbing Championship which started in its School premises, here today.
Ritesh Sharma and Randeep Parihar of the host school won a gold and a silver medal respectively in the mini boys group, Asma Gul and Sunandani Bhagat clinched a gold and a bronze medal respectively in the mini girls group. Mahi Choudhary of MNDP School RS Pura secured the 2nd place.
However, in the sub junior girls’ category, the first three positions were bagged by Ria Choudhary of MNDP School, R S Pura, Tanisha of Shastri Memorial Hr. Secondary School, Patoli, Jammu and Asiya Qadri of Shangrilla Public School, Sarwal, Jammu
In the Girls category there was an upset when Shivani of Shining Star Academy Muthi defeated Shilpa Charak, last year’s Zonal silver medalist to clinch the top spot. Shivani easily topped the wall while Shilpa of the same school slipped on the last hold to settle for a silver medal. Nitya Sharma of Shangrilla Public School secured the third place.
There was not much competition in the women category because of lack of adequate participation and Muskan Abrol, a senior climber easily bagged the title. Shaweta Magotra and Diksha both of Muthi, Jammu secured the second and third positions respectively.
In the Sub Junior boys category, 8 climbers led by Arun Deep and Ajay Deep Singh had entered the final round which shall be conducted tomorrow. Similarly, Speed Climbing Competitions in all the categories of Jammu district shall be organized tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Samba district competitions were completed today only as competitions could be conducted in only 2 categories in lead climbing only.
In mini boys, Rohit Slathia, Vishwarth Sharma andDanish Slathia bagged gold, silver and bronze medal respectively, while in sub jr. boys Riaz Ali, Abhinash Badiria and Bipan Singh claimed gold, silver and bronze respectively.
Earlier, the championship was declared open by Soujanya Sharma, Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation in the presence of Prof Lalit Magotra, Convener, Dogri Advisory Board, Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, Sanjeet Khajuria, Assistant Director, Doordarshan Kendra, Jammu and Rajan Sharma, Divisional Sports Officer, J&K State Sports Council.
Prominent among others present on the occasion included Secretary, Mountaineering Association of J&K Ram Khajuria; Directors of Sprawling Buds School Rahul Sharma, Ramesh Khajuria, Arti Sharma and Savita Sharma and Principal Pooja Sharma; Shawetica Khajuria, a National Judge in Sport Climbing; Yogeshwar Kumar, Vice Presidents of Mountaineering Association of J&K; Anil Kumar, Aman Arora, both qualified Belayers; Sonam Sidharth, a trained mountaineer and Satish Bhan, a sports organizer.
The championship was organized by Mountaineering Association of J&K and sponsored by J&K State Sports Council.
