JKCA in a state of perplexity, anarchy

JAMMU, Aug 7: The jaundiced State of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) can be presumed from the fact that it has hardly done anything with regard to preparation of State teams for the forthcoming BCCI tournaments, when most of the other cricket associations of the country have finalized their selection panels as also the probables for the coming season.
Three months after the alleged multi-crore scam that has surfaced in JKCA and left it in trauma, the president of the Association, Dr Farooq Abdullah constituted a 12-member committee to monitor the cricketing activities in both the regions of the State, however this committee is in a state of perplexity, confusion and chaos, as to what to do, when to do and how to do in the scheme of things in JKCA? See why?
The 12-member tournament committee or you may call it JKCA’s Activity Monitoring Committee, has been constituted with no member from the current office bearers being part of it, which is some what surprising. Now, the question arises as to would it be the current office bearers to take the decisions with regard to selection of teams and allied things or the newly constituted monitoring committee.
“One gets a feeling that it is a time biding process and not the lasting solution for running the affairs of the association smoothly and successfully, as the tournaments to be conducted by the tournament committee in absence of the selectors hardly carries any sense, rather holding such an activity is like flogging a dead horse,” said a Ranji trophy cricketer, expressing anonymity while talking to Excelsior.
He said that what is the fun of holding cricket activity when it would not be observed by the selectors, adding that the cricketers have already been left in the lurch and participating in such activities would further drag them in the corridor of uncertainty as they would be having no idea as to would they be picked in the party for their performance or would have to wait for any other group to hold the tournament for their selection.
“Both the factions- the newly constituted committee and the current office bearers, are leaving no stone unturned in pleasing the JKCA chief with a sole aim to takeover the charge of JKCA affairs and enjoy power and pelf,” said a cricket analyst while expressing shock over the sorry state of affairs in JKCA.
Meanwhile, what is confusing is that the newly constituted committee of Jammu province along with vice chairman Jammu wing inspected the GGM Science College ground and directed the ground staff for preparation of the ground, while, on the other hand, the office bearers including chairman JKCA and the joint secretary, Jammu wing, held a meeting at the association’s office on the other day to decide their future action plan, which was followed by a press briefing by the joint secretary and the senior selectors. Which faction of the two is going to rule the roost is yet to be seen.
In short, the association is presently in dilemma rather in trauma, while the cricketing season is in sight and the players waiting in the wings to get an opportunity to showcase their skill and get the selectors nod. However, at present everything seems bleak with regard to holding of activities. Some say rainy season serves as a stumbling-block to resume the activities, while some say unavailability of funds is the major problem
For that matter, Dr Farooq Abdullah, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy and JKCA president needs to harness his dynamism and energy and take initiatives with regard to permanent solution of the prevailing problem in JKCA, to help the cause of cricket and cricketers in the state. Apart from promotion of the game, promotion of sincere, selfless, genuine and devoted working committee members is the need of the hour.
