JAMMU, Oct 4: All India Level J&K Police (JKP) Open FIDE Rating Chess Tournament concluded here today at MA Stadium with Dhanjay of Chhattisgarh winning the tournament by scoring 9 out of 9 points.
DIG, IRP Jammu, VS Sambyal was the chief guest on the occasion who distributed the prizes among the winners. Atul Kumar Gupta, president, All J&K Chess Association, secretary, Ashiq Ahmed, vice-president, Baldev Raj, coordinator, Taranvir Singh Gujral, Dr AS Bhatia, Ravi Singh and Raj Kumar were special guests on the occasion.
Total 115 players from 15 different states of the Country participated in the Tournament, which was organized by All J&K Chess Association and sponsored by J&K Police.
Dhanjay, a 14-year old boy of Chhattisgarh won the tournament by scoring 9 out of 9 points by winning all the matches. Second and 3rd positions went to Arun Rathi and Sahil Tickoo of Haryana, who scored 7 points each.
Vigneshwaran S of Tamil Nadu secured 4th position, Singh Soram Rahul of Manipur 5th, Vikram Ranolia of Haryana 6th, Akshay Anand of Punjab 7th, Raees Ahmad of Maharashtra 8th, Prem Raj K of AP 9th while 10 position went to Sanjay Chabbra of Haryana.
Special category prizes were also given to Rishab Jain of Delhi in U-12 years category, Jagdeep Singh Sudan of Delhi in U-16, Soham Kamotra and Deewang Gupta for Best J&K in U-10 (A) and (B) categories respectively, Arushi Kotwal, Agrim Sharma and Aryan for Best J&K U-15 in (A), (B) and (C) categories respectively, Maxim Singh, Ravi Sharma and Rajat Bhardwaj for Best J&K players in A, B and C categories, Meenal Gupta for best woman and Puneet Choudhary for best unrated.
Special mementoes were also given to Sankalp, a visually impaired player and Nandita Khajuria and Divyam Gupta, both youngest players of the event.
Also present on the occassion were Atul Kumar Gupta President “All J&K Chess Association”, Ashiq Ahmed Secretary, Baldev Raj vice president, Taranvir Singh Gujral coordinator, Dr A S Bhatia, Ravi Singh, Raj Kumar and Mr Thakur special guests.
International Arbiter, Dharmendra Kumar was the chief arbiter of the event who was supported by Rajinder Teli, Anil Kotwal, Bindu Pathania, Ranjan and others for the smooth conduct of the event.
Mohit Gupta anchored the whole event while Advocate Rakesh Sadhotra presented vote of Thanks. Taranvir Gujral was chief organizing secretary of this event.
