JAMMU, Apr 4: Jammu & Kashmir’s growing footprint in women’s cricket received a major boost as three players from the Union Territory featured in the title-winning North Zone squad at the Senior Women’s Inter-zonal Multi-Day Trophy, concluded at Siechem Stadium today.
North Zone secured the championship in a tense summit clash against West Zone, sealing victory on the basis of a crucial first-innings lead. The match showcased grit and tactical discipline, with North Zone responding strongly to West Zone’s imposing first-innings total of 359 by building a commanding reply to take control of the contest.
For J&K, the achievement holds special significance. The 15-member North Zone squad included Chitra Singh Jamwal, Bismah Hassan, and Ananaya Sharma, highlighting the steady rise of cricketing talent from the region. Among them, Bismah Hassan earned a place in the playing XI in one of the matches, contributing on the field during the high-stakes tournament.
The success was further strengthened by the presence of Parveen Aziz as Team Manager, whose leadership ensured cohesion and focus within the squad, while Divya Sarotia played a key role as Physiotherapist, maintaining player fitness and recovery throughout the demanding multi-day format.
Although not all J&K players featured in the playing XI consistently, their selection in a championship-winning squad reflects the depth and quality of talent being developed under the Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA).
This victory not only adds to North Zone’s achievements in domestic cricket but also serves as an encouraging sign for women’s cricket in J&K. With increased representation at the national level, the region continues to move forward in nurturing competitive players capable of excelling on bigger platforms.
