J&K Masters shine at 8th National Games

JAMMU, Jan 31: Athletes from Jammu and Kashmir delivered an outstanding performance on the final day of the 8th Masters National Games in Pune, held from January 27 to 31, clinching multiple medals across disciplines.
The J&K contingent secured two gold, four silver and five bronze medals in athletics, two gold medals in judo, one gold in lawn tennis and one silver and one bronze in badminton. The event was organized by the Masters Games Association Maharashtra under the aegis of the Super Masters Games and Sports Federation (India).
In athletics, Neete Kour (45+) was a star performer, winning gold in the 100 metres and discus throw, and silver in shot put. Renu Khullar (40+) earned silver in discus throw and bronze in shot put and 200 metres, while Upasana Sharma (40+) bagged silver in shot put and bronze in discus. Manpreet Kour (35+) won bronze in 200 metres and shot put, and Sanjeev Kumar (50+) secured silver in the 100 and 200 metres, plus a bronze in 100 metres.
In judo, Irfan Lateef (30+ 73 kg) and M. Yaseen (30+ 90 kg) claimed gold medals. Aashish Bali won gold in lawn tennis (40+), while Khema Gupta won silver in badminton singles (55+) and bronze in doubles (50+). Ranjeet Singh Chib, President of the J&K Masters Games Association, lauded the athletes’ dedication and fighting spirit, saying their performance brought immense honour to Jammu and Kashmir.
