KARGIL, Nov 25: In a historic development for winter sports in Ladakh, renowned skier Sadiq Ali from Kargil has been appointed to the Selection Committee of Ski and Snowboard India (SSI), under the Indian Olympic Association’s (IOA) Ad-Hoc Committee. The committee is tasked with identifying and nurturing elite skiing talent for India, including finalizing the country’s contingent for the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.
Sadiq Ali, a President’s Medal awardee and founding member of the Ladakh Ski and Snowboard Association, is widely recognized for his contributions in popularizing snow skiing in Ladakh. His appointment to the national selection panel is seen as a significant breakthrough for Ladakh’s winter sports scene. Local youth leaders and sports enthusiasts have hailed the appointment, with hopes that it will inspire young talent and bring more opportunities for athletes from Ladakh to compete internationally.
