JAMMU, Nov 9: Jammu and Kashmir began the 69th National School Games in Taekwondo with a bang, as local athlete Nasir ul Islam secured a medal by defeating his Telangana rival in the quarterfinals to advance to the semifinals. The event, hosted at the Indoor Sports Complex, Bhagwati Nagar, saw an impressive gathering of 34 teams representing States, Union Territories, and various organizations across the country.
Commissioner Secretary, Youth Services and Sports, Yasha Mudgal, inaugurated the championship and emphasized that sports cultivate not just physical fitness but also mental, moral, and emotional development. She said, “Sports build bridges of unity and friendship. Winning is important, but participation and dedication define true success.” She assured full support from the Government and organizers to ensure athletes’ safety, comfort, and well-being throughout the tournament.
Director General YS&S, Anuradha Gupta, welcomed the chief guest and athletes, while Joint Director YS&S Jammu and Organising Secretary Vinakshi Koul thanked all stakeholders, including the District Administration, Police, and media, for their support in organizing the event.
Other results of the day saw NVS defeat Odisha, Bihar outplay Jharkhand, Telangana overcome Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu beat West Bengal, Assam edge past CISCE, Haryana triumph over Himachal Pradesh, Mizoram outclass Vidya Bharati, CBSE defeat Maharashtra, Delhi surpass Karnataka, Andhra beat IPSC, KVS prevail over Goa, Uttarakhand win against Kerala and Gujarat defeat Rajasthan.
