BANDIPORA, Sept 10: The Martyr Altaf Memorial Cricket Tournament began today with a grand inaugural ceremony at the Sports Stadium Bandipora. The tournament was inaugurated by SSP Bandipora, Harmeet Singh Mehta, in the presence of senior officers from Bandipora Police, Army and CAPF.
Organized by District Police Bandipora in collaboration with the Cricket Association Bandipora, the tournament aims to honour the brave police personnel who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.
A total of 64 teams from across the district are participating in the tournament, which will be played on a knockout basis. The opening match featured Alfa Cricket Club Bandipora against Wullar Sports Hajin.
The event witnessed participation from local dignitaries, cricket enthusiasts and families of police martyrs. SSP Mehta said the tournament not only commemorates martyrs but also promotes youth engagement and sportsmanship. The Cricket Association expressed gratitude to District Police for their support.
