Dogra Law College organizes its 1st Youth Parliament

JAMMU, Aug 8: Dogra Law College under the aegis of Dogra Educational Trust, hosted its first Youth Parliament today in the College auditorium, to cultivate democratic values, leadership and policy awareness among young legal minds.
The event commenced with a welcome address by Dr Dharamveer Sharma, Dean, Dogra Group of Colleges. He described the day as a historic moment in the journey of Dogra Law College and highlighted the event as a celebration of democracy, debate, dialogue and the indomitable spirit of the youth.
A ceremonial lighting of the lamp accompanied by Saraswati Vandana was conducted to invoke blessings. Among the dignitaries present were Gohar Hafeez Fani, a distinguished social activist from J&K, who graced the occasion as the special guest.
Dr Samar Dev Singh Charak, in his brief yet inspiring remarks said, “This initiative reflects our vision to empower students not just with degrees, but with purpose and responsibility.”
Addressing the gathering, R S Katal expressed pride in witnessing the enthusiasm and discipline of the participants. “The Youth Parliament is a mirror of our democratic values and a training ground for tomorrow’s changemakers,” he said.
Advocate Gambhir Dev Singh Charak said, “As budding legal minds, you must learn to speak for justice and think for the people-this is where it begins,” he said. He stressed that democracy thrives when youth engage with integrity and ethical thinking.
Dr Jay Prakash Srivastava, Principal Dogra Law College and the Law faculty lent their wisdom and presence to the occasion.
The parliamentary session, introduced by Jaspreet, began with an Oath Ceremony. This was followed by an engaging Question Hour, Zero Hour, and Call Attention Motion, where students enthusiastically debated and raised pertinent national issues.
The session also featured the Introduction and Voting on Bills, mirroring real parliamentary procedures and providing students a realistic legislative experience. The sessions were evaluated by the special guest and Monika Sharma, Assistant Professor of the College.
The event concluded with vote of thanks by Lalita Prasad.
