SRINAGAR, Feb 27: The 2nd Kashmir Division Strength Lifting Championship, organized by the Srinagar District Strength Lifting Association under the J&K Strength Lifting Association, concluded at Baghi Wares Khan, Downtown Srinagar. The event saw the participation of around 60 athletes from different parts of the region, competing in Strength Lifting and Inclined Bench Press across various weight categories.
The championship was attended by MLA Tanvir Sadiq, who graced the occasion as the chief guest. He felicitated the winners for their excellent performances and underscored the importance of sports in promoting physical fitness among youth. MLA Sadiq also announced a Rs 4 crore project to construct a modern auditorium, aiming to improve sports infrastructure in the region. The Champion of Champion title was awarded to Sahil for his outstanding performance throughout the championship.
The event proceedings were managed by Anis Choudhary, a renowned strength lifter from Kashmir. The vote of thanks was presented by Ashok Singh, former Divisional Sports Officer.
In addition to the dignitaries, the event saw participation from veteran strength lifters, including Mustak Zargar (Manager, Bakshi Stadium), Mohd. Maqbool Zargar (President, Strength Lifting Association, Srinagar), Manzoor Ahmed, Nazir Ahmed (Secretary, SLA District Srinagar), and other officials like Azhar Sidiq, Fraque Ahmed, Manzoor Ahmed Alaqbend, Bashir Ahmed (Secretary, Ganderbal), Ghulam Mohammad, Nazir Ahmed Bhat, Nasir Ahmed (Secretary, Badgam) and Raman Sharma.
The results of the championship were as follows: In the 52 kg Strength Lifting category, the winners were Daayim Manzoor, Sheikh Fuzail Bashir and Zaid Nabi; in the 60 kg, Rayees, Zahid and Hamza Manzoor; in the 68 kg, Inayat Waha Khan, Umar Shah and Farooq Ahmed Sheikh; in the 76 kg, Faisal Mushtaq, Bilal Ahmed Sheikh and Mohsin; in the 85 kg, Ali, Irsalin and Sajad Ahmed Dar; in the 95 kg, Sahil, Sami Ullah and Sahil Shah were the winners. For Inclined Bench Press, the winners were Daayim Manzoor, Sheikh Fuzail Bashir and Zaid Nabi in the 52 kg category; Rayees, Zaid and Hamza Manzoor in the 60 kg category; Inayat Waha Khan, Umar Shah and Farooq Ahmed Sheikh. In the 68 kg category; Bilal Ahmed Sheikh, Faisal Mushtaq and Mohsin in the 70 kg category; Ali, Irshalin and Sajad Ahmed. In the 85 kg category; Sahil, Sahil Shah and Sami Ullah in the 95 kg category were the winners.
