4th LG Cup Ice Hockey C’ship begins in Kargil

KARGIL, Jan 16: The 4th edition of the LG Cup Ice Hockey Championship 2024-25 was officially inaugurated today at the Ice Hockey Rink, Khree Sultan Choo Sports Stadium, Biamathang, Kargil. The event was launched by Executive Councillor, Revenue, LAHDC, Kargil, Kacho Mohd Feroz, in the presence of a large crowd of ice hockey enthusiasts.
The championship, which will conclude on January 20, saw its first match played between the LSRC Army Team and Royal Chiktan. The inauguration was attended by several dignitaries, including Executive Councillor, Zanskar Affairs, Er. Punchok Tashi; Deputy Commissioner/ CEO, LAHDC, Kargil, Shrikant Balasaheb Suse; Joint Director, Youth Services and Sports, Ladakh, Tahir Hussain Zubadavi; and other district officers.
Executive Councillor Feroz highlighted the importance of the championship, noting that the participation of teams from both Leh and Kargil promotes sportsmanship, physical health, and cultural exchange. He assured the audience that the LAHDC Kargil would extend full support for the promotion of ice hockey, which also contributes to tourism in the region.
The Joint Director, Youth Services and Sports, informed that the championship features four boys’ teams from both Leh and Kargil, along with two girls’ teams. He also announced that the Administration is working on developing more ice hockey rinks across Kargil to further boost the sport.
