DG Sports inaugurates playfield at GHS Keerpind

JAMMU, Apr 21: With an aim to explore the talent in the rural areas at the grass-root level, the Director General Youth Services and Sports, Navin Agarwal inaugurated the playfield at Government High School, Keerpind, Miran Sahib amidst cheers and applause, here today.
The playfield was developed by the Department of Youth Services and Sports out of District Plan in the year 2013-14.
Large number of student players and local people of the area including Sarpanchs and Panchs attended the inaugural function.
Speaking on the occasion, the Director General said that the department has initiated various schemes for the development of sports infrastructure in the State to explore talent at the grass-root level, adding that there is dire need to promote sports and games in the rural and hilly areas, having abundant talent in sports.
Earlier, the local people of the area demanded the construction of basketball court in School premises and issuance of sports gear and the DG Sports assured them that the equipment will be provided to the needy institutions within a couple of days and regarding the development of basketball court, he gave on spot instructions for the development of basketball court at an earliest.
Those who were present on the inaugural function were Ved Parkash, Deputy Director Youth Services and Sports, Sarita Pandha (ZPEO Miran Sahib) and Jeet Singh (ZPEO Gandhi Nagar).
